Veteran's Assistance

PURPOSE

The purpose of the Veteran's Assistance Board (VAB) is to advise the Ferry County Board of County Commissioners (Commissioners) on the needs of local income-eligible veterans, the resources available to local veterans and programs that could benefit the needs of local veterans and their families.

The Ferry County Veteran's Relief Fund is organized per provisions of Washington State RCW 73.08 and is administered by the Commissioners. The Relief Fund assists qualified Veterans with temporary emergency needs such as utilities, rent and burial. To qualify for this assistance, the Veteran, or family member, must meet the guidelines provided by Washington State and Ferry County Policy. Proof of services, residency, and income eligibility status must be verified. This is not an entitlement program. The VAB advises the Commissioners on matters regarding the fund and provides assistance to veterans by reviewing applications for assistance. The VAB provides their recommendations for assistance to the Commissioners for approval. The Ferry County Auditor issues payment once approved by the Commissioners.

Funding for the Ferry County Veterans Relief Fund comes from the Citizens of Ferry County through their property taxes. Anyone who owns property in the county contributes to the program, including many veterans who have or will use the Veteran's Relief Fund. It is not charity. In recognition of the service Veterans rendered to their country when it needed them, the VRF is made available for Veterans in need.

Financial assistance is limited to SEVEN HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS ($750.00) per year.  Vouchers are only made out to the appropriate vendor(s).  (See the application for full details.)
